Roulette at Allbet: How the Wheel and Betting Layout Work

Roulette has one of the shortest rulebooks in the casino. A ball lands in a numbered pocket on a spinning wheel, and every bet on the table is a guess about which pocket that will be.

The wheel carries the numbers 1 to 36, split between red and black pockets. On top of those sit the green zero pockets, and how many you get depends on the version.

European roulette has a single green zero. American roulette adds a second one, a double zero. That extra pocket matters: it gives the house one more number that beats almost every outside bet, so the single-zero game is the better deal for the player.

Reading the betting table

Next to the wheel is the betting layout, a grid of all the numbers plus a set of extra sectors around the edge. Broadly, bets fall into two groups:

• Inside bets go on single numbers or small groups of neighbouring numbers on the grid. A straight-up bet on one number usually pays 35 to 1.
• Outside bets go on the larger sectors: red or black, odd or even, low or high numbers, and the dozens and columns. They win more often and pay less.

The zero is what tips these bets in the house's favour. Red or black looks like a coin flip, but when the ball drops into green, both lose.

How a live spin is settled

Once every player has placed their chips, betting closes. The dealer spins the wheel, sends the small ball round the rim in the opposite direction, and waits for it to settle. The pocket the ball comes to rest in is the winning number, and the table pays out on every bet that covered it.
