The aim is to finish closer to 21 than the dealer without going over.

- J, Q and K count as 10.
- An ace counts as 1 or 11, whichever helps you.
You and the dealer each get two cards, with one of the dealer's showing. An ace plus a ten-value card as your first two cards is a blackjack, which usually pays 3 to 2.
Your options on each hand
- Hit: take another card.
- Stand: keep your total.
- Double: double your bet and take exactly one more card.
- Split: turn a pair into two separate hands with a second bet.
Go over 21 and you bust, losing the bet whatever the dealer does. The dealer plays last, drawing by fixed house rules.
